Juan Marin the vice-president of the Junta de Andalucia, has been rather critical about the central government’s decision to open Spain’s borders 14 days earlier than expected.

MARIN, who is also the councillor for Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration, even branded the decision as “erroneous” due to the lack of “sanitary control.”

In a radio interview, the spokesperson for the Junta claimed there was too much “uncertainty” involved in the process and that Sanchez’s decision is a “serious error” as they must have protocols in place to know if incoming travellers are in fact infected with the coronavirus or not.

The Costa del Sol region is optimistic about the return of tourists this year; however, some are fearful that the influx of visitors will cause a spike in cases, especially as there have already been dozens of imported cases in the last few weeks.
