CHELSEA Hold Real Madrid To A Draw In Spain in the Champion’s League Semi-Final

Chelsea travelled to Spain today, Tuesday 27, to take on Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, in the first-leg of their Champion’s League semi-final, and came away with a perfect 1-1 result, having the all-important away goal for the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

The conditions were appalling, with the rain lashing down continually for most of the match, making it difficult at times for the players to pass the ball as well as they would have liked to.

Both goals came within the first thirty minutes, and Chelsea were in control, with Timo Werner wasting a perfect opportunity, shooting straight at the goalkeeper, but then it Christian Pulisic who opened the scoring as he calmly slotted home a great finish past Thibaut Courtois after 14 minutes.

If anybody was going to level the scores it would be Real’s French striker Karim Benzema, was has been prolific all season, especially in the Champion’s League, and sure enough, he was on hand to score an incredible goal on 29 minutes as he cushioned the ball, spun, and smashed a volley into the Chelsea net, giving Edouard Mendy no chance.

The second half was a bit of a letdown, with neither team carving out any openings, to see Chelsea hold Real Madrid to a draw, but Thomas Tuchel will be very satisfied with this performance against one of Europe’s biggest clubs, and with the prize awaiting him of a possible final in Istanbul against Manchester City or Paris St-Germain on 29 May, if they can overcome Zinedine Zidane’s men in London, as reported by bbc.com.
