BORIS JOHNSON to give a live press update on the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic in the UK

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to give a live update on Monday, February 15 after news that the UK has surpassed its Covid vaccination target and already administered the first dose of the jab to 15million people. The Government is set to outline its ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown on February 22, with the PM reaffirming his commitment to begin reopening primary and secondary schools on March 8.

The UK has now entered into stage 5 of its vaccinate rollout plan, with the aim to vaccinate two-thirds of the top nine priority groups by Easter. The Prime Minister said that he is “optimistic” that restrictions can be relaxed shortly, with the government hinting that bars and restaurants will be allowed to reopen in April for al fresco services.

No 10 has already announced its intention to scrap the old Covid Tier system and instead implement a three-stage national plan.

Mr Johnson said: “On February, 22, I’m going to be setting out a roadmap as far as we’re able to, giving everybody some more clarity, insofar as we can, about how we hope to unlock, beginning with schools, we hope very much, from 8 March.”
