NEW guardians for the Alhambra and the Generalife in Granada.

The Junta de Andalucia has set out to provide new guardians, in the form of falconry birds of prey. They will not only restore a cultural history linked to the Nasrid times, but also protect the monuments and their surroundings from being damaged by pigeons.

Falconer, Paulino Vázquez, is the head of the project that will project the gardens and forests along with the artistic heritage of the Alhambra. His team of guardians consists of brothers Rómulo and Remo, who are Harris’s eagles, two hawks and a goshawk. The birds of prey will be used to displace groups of pigeons and move them into a more appropriate habitat.
