Father and Sons Beat up Policemen in Alhaurín de la Torre Spain over Mask Warning

A FATHER and his two sons in Alhaurín de la Torre Spain fought with local policemen after they warned one of the sons for not wearing a mask.

The violent street brawl happened after plain closed police noticed a 16-year-old man in a local park with a group of youths was not wearing a mask. The youth was especially defiant when the police asked the group to keep their distance, but they let him go after breaking up the meeting. After a while, the plainclothes patrol found the same person, along with another gang in Juan Pablo II park, who were again not covering their mouths. On seeing this, the officers decided to take the young man home to explain the offence to his parents.

The events occurred on the afternoon of Friday, November 20, when police arrived at the minor’s home, situated in the centre of the town. Officers received violent punches and kicks from the father and older brother, 21, and from the youth that had been warned earlier.

According to witnesses, the two family members and the minor himself began to beat the police in a “violent”, “surprise” and “brutal” manner, attacking the officers from behind with the intention of causing them “as much damage as possible.

The attack lasted for several minutes, during which the police, who were outnumbered, managed to call in reinforcements after one of them ran to the vehicle to use the radio. With the arrival of other agents, they managed to put an end to the attack and arrest the three attackers for the serious crime of attacking the police.

The result of the brawl ended with the two officers who intervened in the first place hospitalized. One of them suffered a nasal septum fracture, while the other required four stitches on his forehead, where he had received several traumas. It is understood that these injuries were caused by the minor, who had used his mobile phone to throw several blows at the officers.

The local section of the Professional Union of Municipal Police of Spain condemned the offences. In addition, a spokesperson said that it is one of the municipalities with the lowest ratio of agents per thousand inhabitants in Spain and had they been properly manned then the outcome would have been ‘very different’.

The mayor of Alhaurín de la Torre (Málaga), Joaquín Villanova, estimated the number of complaints that are accounted for in the municipality at more than 30 since the new order of the Junta de Andalucía came into force this week that establishes the mandatory use of the mask in public spaces, with penalties of 100 euros in case of non-compliance.

The councillor had called for the “responsibility” of citizenship which, he said, “is the only way to preserve the life and health of Alhaurinos.”

He assured that the City Council will be “inflexible” with those who violate the rules, which he said not only imply the mandatory use of a mask but other measures, such as reducing the limit of people who can go to wakes or funerals.
