The woman was rushed by helicopter to Josep Trueta University Hospital where medical personnel revealed that she was in a critical condition after the impact. However, due to the severity her injuries, she died a few hours later.

According to the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, the family of Spanish nationality had lived in the house since 2014 and there were no incidents of violence reported to the police in the past.

As Euro Weekly News understands, the father is receiving support from bereavement councillors and the police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the tragic event. According to sources close to the investigation, forensics officers found a hoe during a search of the house and are determining whether this was used to kill the girls.

In wake of the incident, Vilobí City Council have expressed their sadness for the loss of the two young children, declaring three days of mourning in the municipality. A minute of silence was also held today (December 14).
