No 10 denies Boris and Carrie Johnson broke lockdown rules over Christmas.

According to No 10, Boris and Carrie did not break the rules at Christmas. Reports that Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie spent the Christmas period with a close friend have been denied by Downing Street. Over Christmas coronavirus infections increased dramatically. Many people saw their planned Christmas festivities cancelled.

Government adviser Nimco Ali reportedly spent part of the Christmas period with the couple in No 10.

Many people had planned to spend Christmas with family as coronavirus rules were expected to be relaxed. London was hit with Tier 4 restrictions though along with parts of south-east England. This meant that millions of people had to alter their plans at the last minute.

According to US magazine Harper’s, Ms Ali: “spent Christmas with the couple at No 10 despite pandemic restrictions on holiday gatherings”. Ms Ali began an advisory role in December 2020 at the Home Office.

Speaking to The Independent, a spokesperson for No 10 commented: “The prime minister and Mrs Johnson have followed coronavirus rules at all times. It is totally untrue to suggest otherwise.”

Ms Johnson’s spokesperson also stated that the couple have followed the rules. The statements were practically the same. The spokesperson said: “The PM and Mrs Johnson have followed coronavirus rules at all times. It is totally untrue to suggest otherwise.”
