The council said Marbella will participate in its first summit as a new partner of the World Federation of Tourist Cities (WTCF) with the aim of reinforcing its position in international tourism. The mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz, said that the town joined the tourist federation in June. She said: “We are very satisfied with joining this federation in order to continue growing together with the most important destinations on the planet and creating synergies that allow us to continue progressing and creating wealth and employment in our town.” Mayor Muñoz said: “We are very excited about this project, in which we want both to contribute our experience as a first-rate destination, and to learn to improve the experience we offer our visitors.” She added: “We are still in a difficult time due to the pandemic, but we have to continue working to maintain our position in international markets and, in this sense, it is very important to go hand in hand with the largest cities and institutions in the world that make up this federation.” She added that Marbella is “a town with a great history behind it and with unbeatable tourist attractions.” She said: “We are a unique destination and our alliance with projects such as this federation makes us stronger and more competitive in a globalised world.” Mayor Muñoz said it was “a step forward for Marbella in its international positioning and will have multiple benefits at the tourist level.” The 2021 WTCF Tourism Summit will host nearly 400 representatives from renowned tourist cities around the world and will be held at a defining moment in the global battle against the pandemic and the recovery of tourism.
