COVIDIOTS rescued from a mountain in Derbyshire after breaking coronavirus rules to search for a plane crash site

A search and rescue operation had to be mounted near Bleaklow Moor in Derbyshire on Saturday evening, January 9, after a group of four became lost and exhausted while searching for the crash site of a B-29 plane that went down in 1948, killing all 13 passengers. As well as making the perilous trip during some of the worst weather seen in the UK, the foursome had breached Covid rules by travelling all the way from Manchester.

In a Facebook post, the mountain rescue team said: “The four people had driven from Manchester breaking the Covid-19 rules, not just that but also putting their lives at risk.

“The temperature on Bleaklow on Saturday was around minus twelve celsius with wind chill and deep snow.

“This could have been a very different story had they not had phone signal.”

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team eventually located the group after several hours by tracking their phone signal to Hern Stones. Miraculously, none of the four were injured in their escapade.
