Letting fresh air into homes cuts Covid risk by 70 per cent, says the Department of Health which is urging people to open their windows this winter.
“Every action counts when it comes to protecting ourselves and our loves ones from Covid-19. Opening windows to allow fresh air into enclosed spaces can help reduce the spread of the virus indoors,” said the department which has released a video showing how virus particles linger.
It demonstrates how opening a window and letting fresh air into the room can reduce the risk of infection by more than 70 per cent.
The killer virus is spread through the air by invisible small particles and droplets exhaled from the mouth and nose of an infected person.
Most virus transmissions occur indoors where these aerosols can be suspended in the air for long periods of time.
Dr Amir Khan GP warned that as winter approaches and people spend more time indoors, it is important to open windows for around 15 minutes at a time throughout the day.
