Breaking News – Massive gas explosion near JFK airport in Long Island

A massive gas explosion left several houses on fire in Long Island on Sunday, November 1. The accident occurred in Meadowmere Park, Nassau County at around 5:39am, close to JFK airport.

Three people, including two firefighters, were airlifted to hospital, according to officials, while at least three houses were left “badly damaged” by the fire.

Nassau County Assistant Chief Michael Uttaro said that it “looks like a natural gas-fed fire,” stressing, “Right now it does not look suspicious.”

“It was like a big explosion — like a bomb going off,” Fire Chief Kevin Carrero said, saying “everybody felt it here.”

“It was a fireball,” the fire official said.

An unidentified man at the house where the explosion appears to have happened was injured, with burns to an arm, along with two firefighters when a chimney collapsed, officials said. All were airlifted to a local hospital.

“The firefighter injuries were serious, but they’re both in stable condition,” Nassau County Assistant Chief Michael Uttaro said.
