Mum drowned autistic son and faked his kidnapping

Mum who drowned her autistic son and faked his kidnapping faces the death penalty

A grand jury indicted Patricia Ripley for first-degree murder and prosecutors said they will pursue the death penalty.

The mum from Florida is accused of murdering 9-year-old Alejandro Ripley on May 21 by pushing him into a canal, where he drowned. Investigators said that Ripley has been spotted on CCTV on the day of the murder pushing the autistic child into the canal, but a bystander rescued him. Later that day, Ripley again lured the boy to the canal and pushed him in, where he drowned.

Alejandro suffered from severe autism and was non-verbal. When his mother called emergency services she said that two black men had abducted her son after running her off the road south of Miami.

Later police became suspicious as Ripley kept changing her story, and she admitted to drowning the child, saying “he’s going to be in a better place,” a police report said.

She remains in jail while awaiting trial, the Miami Herald reported.
