MOJACAR is still the same despite the pandemic, local mayor Rosa Maria Cano declared  to the local Spanish media.
Asked about the increasing number of Covid-19 outbreaks in Almeria province, she replied that “for the moment” there was practically no problem.
“But we are following with interest and concern the evolution in the most-affected neighbouring municipalities.  We send them all our support and solidarity.”
Meanwhile, Mojacar was “more than ever” a safe place for families and friends to spend a peaceful holiday, the mayor said.
“We have adapted to safety measures, social distancing and hygiene.  Mojacar still has its picturesque corners, the best professionals and best tourist offer,” Cano told the Press.
“We have also looked out for the elderly and anybody who was alone, while supporting those who lost their jobs during the pandemic and risk social exclusion.”
The mayor had praise for the support received from the Diputacion, Almeria’ provincial council, which had gone to great lengths to help municipalities including Mojacar.
So too had the regional government, the Junta de Andalucia, she added:
“It has shown great awareness and understanding of people’s problems, and I hope that it can gradually increase aid once new channels  are set up.”
Despite the pandemic’s dramatic effect on municipal resources, Cano said that thanks to “hard work and effort” since she took over, the town hall’s bank balance was healthy.
“Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that we have as much as we would like to have, or need,” she stressed.
“But we shall do everything within our power to go on helping our residents, their businesses and their families,” Cano pledged.
She and her team had worked morning and night, day after day throughout the health crisis.
“We are still working at this rhythm and we don’t intend to stop until we can overcome all these new challenges.  Residents know that.”
