Monday TV: Must-see documentary inside Italy’s Covid crisis

TONIGHT the BBC will be showing a documentary titled ‘Italy’s Frontline: A Doctor’s Diary,’ which follows A&E doctor Francesca Mangiatordi over three months as she battles against Italy’s coronavirus crisis.

At the hospital in Cremona, in northern Italy, Mangiatordi has to make agonising choices during her 12-hour shifts, deciding which patients are prioritised and will receive the scarce medical equipment. Some of Mangiatordi’s colleagues succumb to the virus and she fears bringing it home to her immunocompromised husband.

It is a sobering watch from Italy’s frontlines that provokes the question, are we lifting lockdown too soon?
