Spain’s capital to plough an extra €6 million into rebooting tourism in Madrid

Spain’s capital is to plough an extra €6 million into rebooting tourism in Madrid.

MAYOR José Luis Martínez-Almeida has announced the budget for tourism will be “significantly” increased to reactivate the sector “as soon as possible and allow tourists to come back to Madrid.”

He said: “The city council has made an extraordinary economic effort at a very complicated time, but for us tourism will never be an expense, it will always be an investment.

“Therefore, we are providing an additional €6 million to the tourism budget for 2020/21, a very important economic injection so that we can work with professionals in the sector to reactivate the industry.”

The city has been awarded the ‘Safe Tourism Certified’ accreditation by the Institute of Tourism Quality for tourist information points, and the tourism bosses are keen to promote Madrid as a safe place to visit.

Martínez-Almeida added: “Madrid is back, although it never left, it is once again ready to receive all those who want to come and see us. Coming to Madrid is coming to a safe city where there are no additional risks to those that can be found anywhere else.”
