Italy’s cinemas, theatres and clubs reluctant to reopen despite government go-ahead

ITALY’S entertainment industry is struggling to reopen to the public despite the latest lockdown easing allowing business to resume.

Monday saw cinemas, theatres, clubs and discos permitted to open their doors to the public. However, continued Covid-19 regulations stipulate masks must be worn at all times and social distancing maintained, meaning many businesses have chosen to remain closed for the time being.

Across Italy, few cinemas, theatres and clubs have chosen to resume activities, according to local media reports. In Rome, only two of the city’s 60 cinemas reopened on Monday while in Sicily only one cinema chose to restart showing films.

Many have chosen to remain closed due to the unfeasibility of following social distancing regulations, which require cinema-goers to sit two seats apart and clubbers to maintain two metres distance on the dance floor.
