Trial of ‘Black Widow’ Maje who allegedly persuaded a lover to kill her husband is set for October

NOVELDA-BORN Maje Moreno and her lover Salvador will be tried in October for murdering her husband Antonio Navarro.
Both face 40-year-prison sentences and this week Valencia’s Upper Court of Justice (TSJ) selected 36 people at random, nine of whom will form the jury that decides whether Maje persuaded Salva to kill her husband in August 2017.
Then 27, Maje was a nurse at a private hospital in Valencia City where she met Salva (47), a nursing auxiliary unaware that he had several rivals.
Salva, believing Maje was a victim of domestic violence, stabbed Antonio Navarro to death in a carefully planned attack, willingly taking the blame although investigators always suspected that Maje, was equally involved long before their January 2018 arrests.
Any of the nine can reject jury duty – or be rejected – claiming possible media contamination or other circumstances favourable or unfavourable to the accused.
Few of the jury will be unaware of the murder’s torrid background, extensively covered and interpreted by the Spanish media who repeatedly refer to Maje as the Black Widow.
It is unlikely that she can have a fair trial, her lawyers argue.
