Costa del Sol’s Malaga Experiences a Surge in Reservations and Hopes to Salvage High Summer Season

Surge in Bookings: Costa del Sol experiences a surge of interest.

Costa del Sol has experienced a surge in reservations, not only showing national interest, but international as well. Malaga has taken great pride in this notion and now the hospitality sector hopes it can still salvage what is left of the high summer season.

Margarita del Cid, the delegated councillor for Tourism on the Costa del Sol has highlighted the latest data regarding search engine results for holidays in the area. Del Cid admits that, “although this seems impossible, we can now see the light at the end of the tunnel”.

Daily searches for flights from Spain, the UK, Germany and France to the Costa del Sol have increased by 35.8%.

Translating these searches into substantial reservations has also been witnessed as the reservations booked at the end of May have increased 136%.

Del Cid has noted that 57% of these bookings are for July, 27% are for August, and finally 16% are for September.

These numbers are encouraging to businesses in the hospitality sector who have been forced to close for over 2 months as a result of the coronavirus crisis in Spain.

Although the summer will be very different from what tourists and businesses have experienced in previous years, this surge in interest is taken as a good sign that the road to recovery exists.
