Very few countries have responded well to coronavirus outbreak says Bill Gates

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has blasted world leaders for failing to be prepared for the coronavirus pandemic.

He said more money should have been ploughed into testing and preventative equipment when the killer bug took a hold in China last December.

He told BBC Breakfast today that very few countries had responded well to the outbreak.

Johns Hopkins University data shows at least 1.7 million people have been infected with the virus around the world, 102,000 have died and more than 400,000 have recovered.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has donated more than $45 billion towards vaccination research.
