Labour Mayor Booted from Party after Social Media Comments About Boris Johnson

A Labour mayor who posted on social media that Boris ‘completely deserves’ his coronavirus illness has been booted out of the party. 

Councillor Sheila Oakes, current mayor of Heanor in Derbyshire, posted: “Sorry he completely deserves this and he is one of the worst PM’s we’ve ever had.”

Despite Ms Oakes attempting to apologise for her remark, the Labour party have made the decision to withdraw the whip.

A spokesperson for the Amber Valley Labour Group said Councillor Oakes “does not currently sit as a Labour councillor and further due process will follow”.
