All National ID Cards in Spain Valid Up to 1 Year After Expiration Date Due to State of Alarm

 The documents which are set to expire from this Tuesday March 13 have been extended till March 13, 2021, to account for the circumstances of the state of alarm.


The Government has agreed that all National ID cards, commonly known as DNIs in Spain, that were due to expire after the declaration of a state of alarm have been extended for the period of one year.

This is what the Cabinet Council has decided as part of the extraordinary measures that have been put in place to combat the economic and social repercussions caused by COVID-19.


Therefore, any DNI cards that expire between March 13, 2020, till March 13, 2021 remain valid. This extension will allow for the cards to be renewed accordingly with the usual process.
