Italy is so far the country in Europe with the worst outbreak of the coronavirus and has been forced to take drastic measures to stop the epidemic. All schools and universities have been closed, people have been warned to avoid mixing with crowds and keep physical contact to a minimum. The restaurants on the sidewalks are empty.
The Italian government has also put a restriction in place on visiting relatives in nursing homes and urge elderly people to not go outside unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Nine million pupils have gotten an unexpected vacation, at least until the middle of March.
Christina Verdone, mother of one of the pupils says:
“It is the right decision, but not now. I think they should have done it months ago, early January for sure.”
But she feels safer now that restrictions are finally in place.
