A PREVENTION plan to stop the use of drugs in sports facilities and surrounding areas has been launched in Villjoyosa.

The Council’s for Public Safety and Sports are working together to eradicate the use of narcotic substances at and near its facilities ‘to protect young people from the onset of consumption’.

To this end, a control plan has been drawn up in collaboration with Villajoyosa Local Police, in the hope that the values of sport will promote healthy living habits – “far from the living habits that drug consumption generates”.

Councillor for Sports, José Ramón Uclés, said: “We do not want our facilities to be habitual places for the use of these types of substances, that is why we are acting now, so that this type of behaviour is eradicated forever from our sports areas.”

Isabel Perona, Councillor for Public Safety, added: “We must not forget that there are many children who come daily to our facilities and we want to protect children from getting involved in drugs. We believe that education and awareness are key pillars to prevent the start of drug use at an early age.”

Regular controls, involving police patrols, are expected to be put into action ‘very soon’.
