A couple from South Wales had their car broken into in Birmingham as their baby underwent major surgery.

Calwyn and Kristy Davies took their 14-week-old baby, Hadleigh, to Birmingham for a major surgery. Their vehicle was broken into by a group of ‘scumbags’ and had their child’s medical history stolen, as it was inside a bag that was taken by the thief’s.

The Nissan X-Trail was targeted at the Royal Angus NCP car park on February 8. The couple were lent the car by grandfather, Mel Davies, to make the journey from South Wales more comfortable.

Mel said: “Hopefully these scumbags are caught and don’t cause any other family the kind of distress that we have had.

“We have had a really heartwarming response from the people of Birmingham and from NCP themselves – and everyone says what a fantastic centre Birmingham Children’s Hospital is. The medical care has been first class.”

Hadleigh requires several operations to his head, as his skull was fused together during birth. The major operations will allow the brain to grow inside the skull without issue. The family are expecting to have many trips to Birmingham in the future, hoping to put Hadleigh on the road to a good quality of life.

NCP regional manager Brian Devonshire – who is himself based in South Wales – said he was very sorry to hear of the family’s trauma.
