THERE is romance in the air on the streets of Vera as the town gets ready to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday.
Suitably romantic music is playing in the main shopping area and the local authority has installed a giant heart in the Plaza Mayor for passers-by to take romantic photos of themselves and their other halves.
The administration invites the public to share their images on social media with the tag ‘#EnamoradosdeVera’ (In love with Vera), the name of the council campaign aimed at boosting local trade at a time when traditionally people splash out and spoil their significant other.
As part of the campaign 52 local businesses are decorated with red balloons in the shape of a heart. Anyone making a purchase worth more than €20 in one of the establishments between today Wednesday and Valentine’s Day on Friday will be eligible to participate in a raffle for prizes including a weekend for two in the Archena spa, a romantic meal for a couple in a local restaurant and a range of other gifts.
Anyone wishing to take part has until February 17 to hand in the receipt from their purchase along with their name, ID and phone number at the Tourist Office.
“All these initiatives are aimed at promoting sales and consumption in Vera establishments, and I encourage all residents and visitors who still haven’t bought their Valentine gift to do so in a business in the locality”, commented Trade councillor Ana Lourdes Ramirez.
