SINCE 2014, the Marbella Council and Malaga Provincial Firefighters Consortium have worked together to allow firefighters from Marbella to offer assistance to the municipalities of Ojen, Istan and Benahavís in the case of emergencies.

The Councillor for Public Safety, José Eduardo Díaz, and the deputy and president of the Firefighters Consortium, Manuel Marmolejos met in the Marbella fire station to discuss the future renewal of this agreement and to consider other issues related to training, communications and prevention.

Both parties agreed that this was a very workable arrangement and that there was a magnificent relationship between the administrations which meant that residents in the three municipalities were safer than if they were without the assistance from Marbella.

The problems of the major fires last summer in Estepona highlighted the need for good working relationships which made for a more effective response when major problems arose.
