FIVE days after Storm Gloria blew itself out, Benidorm’s seafront had returned to normal. Waves whipped up by the storm had covered the Levante and Poniente beaches as far as their promenades but receded once the storm remitted, thanks to the currents on this part of the coast, beaches councillor Monica Gomez explained. The beaches’ orientation also contributed to their quick recovery, the councillor said, as both face south and Storm Gloria did little damage inside the town. The Sierra Helada also bore the brunt of the wind and rain, protecting the town and its beaches, Gomez added.
