ALTEA singer-songwriter Batiste Martinez, El Xocolater, presents his latest disc, Sentiments, this Saturday January 25th.
His newest compositions will have their first airing at a concert in Altea’s Centro Social at 8pm. Entrance is free but limited to the capacity of the hall.
“We didn’t hesitate to support this concert,” said Culture councillor Aurora Serrat.
“We always try to encourage amateur and professional artists so that they reach the local population.”
Batiste has created a disc with 12 tracks, all of which are his own compositions except one, the work of a friend, Rifi Llorca, and another set to a poem by Lluis el Sinfoner. He is also responsible for the music, assisted by Jose Miguel Lavios on guitar, Mari Cruz Sanchez on flute and Juan Aguilera on drums.
“I sing from the heart, recalling life in this town and the culture of our land,” El Xocolater said. “I want to recover our traditions and remain here forever, close to the sea.”
His songs speak of feelings, of peace and are a homage to his parents and to the sea, he explained.
“Music unites us all and I want my grandchildren to remember that their grandfather sang in Valencia, that he was in love in Altea and belonged to the town.”
