THE provincial tourist board has got the 2020 Costa Almeria overseas promotion off to a start at the Vakantiebeurs travel fair in Utrecht in the Netherlands.
The Diputacion de America said there had been important growth in the number of Dutch tourists coming to the province in recent years, and the administration is keen to build on the destination’s popularity in the northern European country.
The provincial administration said the travel fair, which got underway today Wednesday and runs until Sunday, is the most important of its kind held in Holland, and is aimed at both travel sector professionals and the general public.
Tourism deputy Fernando Gimenez maintained the provincial presence at travel fairs is important for consolidating and growing foreign markets “as interesting and as with as much potential as the Dutch, which what’s more has a lot in common with and connections to the Belgian market.
“Visitors of these nationalities have come to our province, in the main, thanks to the flight between Almeria and Rotterdam, and we believe that the presence of Costa de Almeria at Vakantiebeurs will help us gain loyalty among these markets”, the deputy added.
“Our destination meets their expectations well, proof of which is the more than 20,000 Dutch who have visited Costa de Almeria and who came through Almeria airport in 2019.”
Last year the Utrecht travel fair attracted some 105,000 people. There were more than 1,100 exhibitors from 115 countries.
Among the members of the public who attended the event, Spain was named as the second most popular country in terms of intention to visit after Italy.
