THE annual Albox Night Race will once again raise funds for the fight against cancer.
This will be the eighth edition of the event and the third year when the money collected will go towards the AECC Spanish Cancer Association.
Albox council’s Youth and Sport department is organising the race in collaboration with the local branch of the AECC, which this year will take place at 6pm on Saturday Febuary 22.
The full circuit will be five kilometres on a route going through the town to the La Loma area and which will be closed to traffic. There will be shorter distances for the younger runners.
“Following the success of previous editions, Albox will host a race which is becoming a reference point in the Almanzora region and at provincial level, even having the participation of runners from neighbouring provinces”, commented Youth and Sports councillor Juna Luis Montoya at the event presentation this week.
At the same time, the councillor stressed that this year “it is taking part which is most important”, given that the money the event raises is going to such a worthy cause.
Race registration is via the website www.lineadesalida.net and is open until February 20.
The first 150 people to sign up will receive a race bag containing a commemorative T-shirt and backpack and discounts in Albox businesses which are collaborating on the race.
Albox Mayor Francisco Torrecillas described the event as “an ideal proposal for all sports people starting out, for those who already have the running habit, for those who compete, for the youngest members of the family and for teenagers, as well as for the more elderly and everyone who wants to collaborate on the fight against cancer.
