A 21-YEAR old suspected of violently mugging two women in Roquetas de Mar is under arrest.
Almeria Guardia Civil detained the young man identified as B.D. from Roquetas, after a callout to the 062 emergency service about a domestic dispute. It turned out the argument between the two individuals concerned kicked off because one of them had two stolen mobiles.
Checks revealed the phones had been in handbags snatched on the street from a 63 and a 47-year old woman at the end of last year.
An investigation into the incidents established that the mugger had picked on women of a certain age. In both cases the thief had surprised the victims and yanked their bags away from them.
The Guardia Civil stressed that as part of the force’s safety plan for senior citizens officers have regular contacts with this section of the community, with activities and talks to provide advice on how to avoid becoming victims of these kinds of crimes.
