THE Diputacion de Malaga has opened a new call for the prizes for the Best Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the province of Malaga.

This year 2020 is the nineteenth edition of this event with the aim of contributing to promote and improve the image and market position of extra virgin olive oils from Malaga and stimulate the production of quality oils.

This has been announced by the first vice president and deputy of Sustainable Economic Development, Juan Carlos Maldonado, who recalled that the Diputacion, through Sabor a Malaga, is working “to promote knowledge of the rich heritage linked to the olive tree and EVOO owned by the province. ”

He stressed that extra virgin olive oil is a product that is at the base of the Mediterranean diet and currently enjoys great international projection, forming part of one of the main productive sectors of the province and being one of the most exported products.

Until January 21, Malaga mills can register to participate in the three categories of this event: extra virgin olive oil, ripe fruity, deep green fruity and medium green fruity.

The contest will feature an independent jury composed of professionals from the olive oil, catering and gastronomic critics sector. These professionals will be in charge of selecting the best AOVES for the 2019-2020 campaign.

In addition, the award-winning oil mills will be able to display the reference to the award on the labeling of their award-winning oils and will enter the national and international promotion and commercialization circuit of the Sabor a Malaga brand and the Costa del Sol Tourism promotion company.

The prize has an economic endowment of €20,000 – €6,666 per category – for the acquisition of award-winning products for promotional actions.
