A REGION in Spain has hit a record high in employment, with the Spanish government praising the historical achievement.

Governmental figures reveal that the region of Murcia has gone from strength to strength in terms of employment, where in 2019 there were almost 93,000 people registered in the Social Security system with permanent contracts.

From January to December of last year, 92,882 people were in long-term roles, an increase of 1,863 from 2018, where 91,019 were registered. The annual results signify a thriving economy, where those living in the region are being granted job stability.

This can be shown just by looking at the figures from 2013 when 40,686 people were registered with permanent contracts, where in just six years the number has doubled.

Responding to the results, Aurelio Morales, the General Director of the SEF, stated that: “It is not only important to note that the highest number of fixed contracts in history has been achieved, but that permanent contracts are setting a precedent over temporary ones.” She added the importance of maintaining the trend to ensure that temporary employment decreases across the region of Murcia.

Morales also highlighted the achievement for the Spanish region, who now places second in Spain after Madrid in the rankings for employment. She stresses the need for roles to be of quality, where governmental initiatives will be rolled out to support the most vulnerable groups. This includes those that are long term unemployed and individuals with disabilities, who are often discriminated in the workforce.
