LA NUCIA FC make their Copa del Rey debut today Thursday, December 19, at the Romano stadium in Merida (Badajoz). They had little luck in the draw, having to play Segunda B (Second Division B) rivals, Merida AD, in a qualifying round at 8.45 that will not be televised by any channel. This is the first season that La Nucia has played in Segunda B and local supporters will not be able to see the match in a live transmission. Today’s match is also a historic one for the team as this will be only the second time that La Nucia have played in the Copa del Rey (equivalent to the FA Cup) in almost 25 years of existence. In the first qualifying round of the Copa del Rey matches are played at the home pitch of the lowest-ranked team but since both La Nucia and Merida are in Segunda B, this was also decided in the draw. It will have been a demanding week for the La Nucia side who will have played three matches in seven days which involved a 500-kilometre bus journey to Barcelona last weekend, arriving home in the early hours of Monday morning. After just two rest days, the La Nucia side had to set off on a 650-kilometre, seven-hour journey yesterday, Wednesday, ready to play today. Once back on the Costa Blanca they must start preparing to meet Andorra, this time at home in the Camilo Cano stadium, on Sunday, December 22 at 5.30pm.
