A WOMAN aged 82 has been arrested accused of stealing €250,000 worth of jewels from a neighbour in Lorca, Spain.
Police say the victim’s husband accidentally left a bag containing the jewellery on the street. The detained woman is said to have picked it up then began to sell it in small lots at various jewellery and gold shops around the Murcia region.
It was then that the Judicial Police Brigade of the Lorca Police Station took charge of the investigation. The agents began to follow the trail of the jewels in different specialist shops Lorca, managing to locate several of the stolen jewels that were identified by their legitimate owner, who is also in her 80s.
Once the first jewels had been recovered, the National Police extended the search to the whole Region of Murcia, finally recovering most of the stolen jewels.
Investigators identified the detained woman as the suspect in the case and obtained a warrant to search her house. But when they arrived, she voluntarily handed over all the jewels she still had in her possession.
