U20 TROPHY: Tournament comes to Villajoyosa next year Photo: Villajoyosa town hall
THE next World Rugby U20 Trophy will be played in Villajoyosa between September 14 and 27 next year. This is the first time Spain and the Federacion Española de Rugby (FER) are organising the tournament, following the agreement signed recently in Valencia City. “It is a great honour to host one of World Rugby’s main global tournaments,” said FER president Alfonso Feijoo. Spain has competed in the tournament only once before in 2016 when they suffered a 38-32 defeat to Samoa in the final. Eight members of that team later went on to play for the Spanish side, Los Leones. “We are very happy to host this prestigious tournament and ensuring that La Vila is the home of rugby next year,” said Villajoyosa’s mayor Andreu Verdu. “We also hope that our own team does well. Hosting the tournament will be a great incentive for them,” he added.
