Pensioner broke shoulder
A WOMAN aged 93 broke her shoulder after she tripped over a rental electric scooter left lying on the ground in Malaga’s historic city centre on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
The events took place around 3.30 pm on November 15 in Calle Carretería. The woman, who after the incident went to the nearby cafeteria Framil for help, told staff that the afternoon sun dazzled her so she didn’t spot the scooter that had been left lying flush on the ground in the middle of the pedestrian area.
The café owners called an ambulance which took her to the Regional Hospital of Málaga. According to health sources, the patient was treated for a fractured right shoulder before being discharged the same day.
The Euro Weekly News has previously reported on the controversy caused by the proliferation of rental electric scooters in the city.
Critics say they are sometimes ridden dangerously and often – as in this case – left abandoned in the middle of streets.
A proposed bylaw will regulate the activities of rental companies and insist on proper parking areas for the scooters.
