Still cleaning up in San Roque

CLEAN UP: Every street is a target Credit: Ayuntamiento de San Roque

THERE is an ongoing campaign in the municipality of San Roque to clean up the streets and then keep them clean.

It has been going on for a year now and gives seasonal employment to local young residents who are not in full time jobs or education.

Dumping of rubbish has been a problem in the past, but the streets are looking better now according to the councillor in charge of the operation.

It is systematic, moving from area to area and with a combination of high pressure jet cleaning and the specially purchased sweeping machine which can traverse many of the narrow streets in the old town, whole areas are getting spruced up in time for Christmas.

In addition, a special team has been created to arrange for the removal of large items which have been dumped and there is a new weekend team keeping an eye out for rubbish.

The plan also calls for an advertising campaign to alert residents to the need to keep the town tidy and looks to explain to children the environmental advantages of disposing of rubbish properly.
