ALFAZ is getting ready for the 22nd edition of International Day this Sunday, October 27. Unlike previous years, the event will be held in Plaza Juan Carlos I in front of the Casa de Cultura instead of the Polideportivo municipal sports complex. Sixty-four local groups and associations of all nationalities are taking part in this year’s International Day, 14 more than in 2018, announced Other Nationalities councillor Martine Mertens. Music will be the common thread running through a day based on harmonious co-existence with all-important input and commitment from local associations and collectives who have drawn up the day’s programme, Mertens added. “They are the real driving force behind International Day,” she said. There will be a children’s area with free activities throughout the day which begins at10.30am, with the official inauguration at 11am. The event continues until 5pm with representatives from the different groups introducing members of the public to their countries’ cuisine, music, dances, folklore and leisure activities.
