€160,000 Handouts To Associations And Charities In Estepona

Cash handouts 

ASSOCIATIONS and charities in Estepona will benefit to the tune of €160,000 from the council next year. 

This is the amount set aside for organisations that work with the most vulnerable sections of society. 

Mayor José María García Urbano, announced the fund at the annual meeting of the Social Council of Volunteers. At the same time as revealing the council is to spend €6 million on ‘social policies’ during 2020. 

Among many other social programmes, €70,000 is going to help pay for property repairs for people of limited resources, another 70,000 will be available to help poorer families with living expenses and €140,000 will be allocated to an emergency fund to assist people with unexpected bills. 

More than 300,000 has been set aside for electricity, water and cleaning bills for the Virgen del Carmen Residence for the Elderly, the Emmaus social canteen and the Association for the Mentally Handicapped of Estepona (APRONA), amongst others. 

Another €197,000 has been earmarked for free tests for the early detection of cancer and €131,000 for heart disease screening.
