MORE than 750 people took part in the sixth Vuelta al Peñon de Ifach swim.
Local participants as well as swimmers from all over Spain and outside the country completed the 3.6-kilometre circuit that began at Cala del Raco, skirted the Peñon de Ifach and finished at the La Fossa beach.
Many of the swimmers later reported that they had encountered shoals of jellyfish during the swim.
Some sections of the circuit were infested with them, they said afterwards, complaining on the social media that some of the swimmers had been stung.
Others shrugged the jellyfish off, physically and metaphorically, saying that they were merely one more aspect of the challenge.
Thanking the participants, organisers and sponsors, Calpe’s mayor Ana Sala said that with the number of participants rising year by year, 1000 swimmers were expected for the 2020 edition.
