EMERGENCIA FEMINISTA: Generalitat vice-president (third right) Monica Oltra Photo credit: Teuladas-Moraira town hall
MONICA OLTRA, vice-president of the Generalitat joined Teulada-Moraira’s women for the recent Emergencia Feminista demonstrations. Her presence was hardly surprising, as Oltra also heads the regional government’s Equality and Inclusive Policies department, but there was also a clear underlying message in her choice of Teulada-Moraira. Oltra belongs to the Compromis party as does Teulada-Moraira mayor, Rosa Vila, who was sworn in as local mayor last June. This followed a surprise turnaround following the municipal elections when the Partido Popular, which had controlled Teulada-Moraira town hall for decades, failed to obtain an overall majority. Against all expectations and ignoring party orders, the newly-elected Ciudadanos councillors supported Vila’s candidacy, a decision they later paid with expulsion from their party.
