BEACH MOVE: Calo des Moro will be an alcohol and smoke free zone by November. Credit: Pinterest
THE beautiful beach, Calo des Moro, has recently been made a non-smoking beach by the Santanyi town hall but they have now made the surprising decision to make the beach alcohol free as well.
The move is intended to limit the illegal sale of alcohol at the beach as well as reduce drunken behaviour and make the beach less crowded.
Fines of between €50-300 will be imposed for people disobeying the new regulations. It is expected that the new regulations will be in place following a council meeting in November.
Banning smoking on beaches has long been a topic of conversation for the health and environment ministries as cigarette butts are left all over the beach which is damaging to the marine life and pollutes the beaches and surrounding areas.
