THE Balcon de Europa provided the backdrop to the presentation of a charity bicycle ride that will see Bernardo Cortés and Francisco Bueno cycle more than 1,600 kilometres from Nerja to Santiago de Compostela.
The two men will take part in the marathon ride in aid of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
Cortes, a local police officer, has been personally affected by the dreadful illness, loosing multiple family members to the disease and relying on the sterling work that the AECC provides.
The presentation was led by the First Deputy Mayor of the City of Nerja, Francisco Arce, and Councillor for Social Services and Sports, Daniel Rivas, accompanied by representatives of the municipal groups of Nerja and Frigiliana, as well as members of the local and provincial executives of the AECC.
Francisco Arce thanked the two men and everyone involved in the project during the presentation, “Today we thank all the people have turned to this noble cause. It is a source of pride for Nerja and
for our City Council.”
“We also would like to thank both Bernardo and Francisco for the enormous solidarity effort they are going to make and we wish them a good trip to their destination.”
So far the adventure has raised over €25,000 and the donation lines are still open.
The pair set off last Friday and are estimated to reach their destination by between September 17 and 19.
