Contraband cigarettes seized in Almeria port

GUARDIA Civil seized thousands of packets of contraband cigarettes during a routine check on vehicles disembarking at Almeria port.
Officers found 3,250 packs of smokes hidden in a van coming off a ferry from Ghazaouet in Algeria.
The driver told them he had nothing to declare at customs, but a thorough inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of a false bottom in the back of the vehicle and a hoard of cigarettes with a market value of €1,650.
After checking that the packets lacked the obligatory tax stamp, officers detained M.B. on charges of contraband.
