A GROUP of thieves targeting mobile phones in Benidorm have been apprehended after a crime spree. Four people have been arrested and 74 handsets recovered by the police after tourists were targeted in the main nightlife area of Benidorm.

The four suspects had a very specific modus operandi – two of the group entered the clubs and distracted the victims before stealing the mobile phones and cash, another waited to take the stolen items from the club and the fourth was responsible for selling the items on the black market.

The thieves travelled between Alicante and Benidorm staying in rooms or homes to avoid detection by the authorities and are believed to have been operating in the area for some time

The suspects, two women and two men of Spanish and Moroccan nationality, have been taken to prison to await prosecution.
