Video streaming service Netflix has once again caused controversy between unionalists and separatists during a family cooking program.

“The Big Family Cooking Showdown” is a UK based reality cooking show and during one of the episodes, the contestants were asked to name where a specific dish originated. The contestant innocently answered, “Spain?” The presenter corrected the contestant saying, “You are close, it’s Catalan Fish Stew”.

This response caused frenzy on social media following the airing. Spanish viewers of the program tweeted comments such as; “Is it that Catalonia is not Spain? That translation even offends.”

Of course the comment also caught the attention of pro Catalan independence supporters. This is not the first time Netflix has left Spanish viewers scratching their heads recently.

Last month EWN reported on how the new Adam Sandler film Murder Mystery, streaming on the service, apparently ‘grossly misrepresented’ the Malaga region.
