ONE hundred and twenty six firefighters and 22 aircraft are continuing to battle a major wildfire in Almeria (Spain) today (July 14). The blaze broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Loma de los Pollicos area of Terque. The Andalucian forest firefighting service Infoca had to call in reinforcements from as far away as Jaen and Granada last night to give exhausted local crews a break. They battled through the night to contain the flames until daylight arrived and aircraft could re-enter the fight. A second fire in Dalias (Almeria) was extinguished by 10 pm last night.
