MAYORS across the Costa del Sol have formally taken office in ceremonies held on Saturday.
The mayors were sworn in after a deadline to reach deals in councils where no one party won outright passed on Friday.
The conservative Partido Popular’s (PP) Angeles Muñoz and Ana Mula, the mayors of Marbella and Fuengirola respectively, were both sworn in after winning absolute majorities.
PP Malaga City Mayor Francisco de la Torre was sworn in after striking a deal with the centrist Ciudadanos.
The left-leaning Partido Socialista’s (PSOE) Victor Navas returns as mayor of Benalmadena with the support of the leftist Izquerda Unida (IU).
PSOE’s Jose Ortiz was sworn in as the mayor of Torremolinos with the backing of Lucia Cuin. The newly-elected councillor was expelled from the far-right Vox after appearing at a Gay Pride parade.
The investiture of Mijas Council has been postponed until Friday July 5 after a dispute emerged between Vox and one of its two councillors.
