A GUARDIA Civil inspection of a second-hand shop in Roquetas de Mar revealed an unexpected secret: a hidden marijuana plantation.
Officers were visiting the store as part of a house break-in prevention plan when they noticed a newly built brick wall. Unsatisfied with the increasingly edgy shop owner’s responses to their enquiries, they decided to take a thorough look round and discovered a metre-wide hole in the wall behind a fridge. They could see there was an adjoining unit behind the wall from where they caught strong wafts of marijuana.
Officers found more than 100 marijuana plants in the concealed unit along with electrical equipment used for increasing the illegal plantation’s productivity.
Guardia arrested the 35-year old shop owner A.M. on charges of a crime against public health and defrauding the power supply.
